“We live in such a wealthy nation, yet still have people that are hungry…That motivates me to do more and more every year.”

Don Thomson is a retired Army Veteran, a proud husband, father of four children and grandparent of four grandchildren. And one other title that Don wears proudly is Harvesters volunteer.

From sorting boxes to packing BackSnacks, Don is ready to help wherever he is most needed. During the holiday season, Don’s whole family comes together to serve.

“We don’t exchange Christmas gifts,” he adds. “Instead, we donate to Harvesters with the money we had set aside for gifts.”

Don says the time he’s spent volunteering has taught him that he can help promote a culture of giving in his family by being a part of the fight against hunger.

“There are so many ways to give and so many opportunities to volunteer,” he says. “Hunger is such a basic thing. Everyone has to eat.”
