Lolita “Lita” Law and her husband, Samuel Moore, met at Fort Leavenworth Gospel Service. They became involved with the Leavenworth Mission at the urging of their pastor.

“So much of what happens in Fort Leavenworth happens on the fort behind gates and he wanted to do something out in the community, so we can get out and meet people and serve the community,” said Lita, a playwright, and the author of “Stepping Out of the Darkness and Into His Glorious Light.”

Sam, a former Air Force meteorologist, has taken on the role of connector between the various Black service organizations.

“When we’re kind of coming up through the colleges we’d say, ‘I’m with them’ or ‘I’m with them’, but as we all get older, we all come together,” he said. “I just like giving back to the community. I feel fortunate, and I was one of the connects to get other organizations here. I like to connect good people to do good things.”

“It’s important to give back to the community. We’re transplants here, but this is home,” Lita said. “Everyone deserves to have something to eat. No one in this country should go hungry at all. Period.

“As you can see, there is a real need for it,” Lita said.

“The line speaks for itself,” Sam said.
