Bills we support:

  • HB 2751 would opt out Missouri for participating in a SNAP Lifetime ban for those with a drug felony. It passed out of the house rules committee.
  • Food is Medicine: SB 1075, SB 1499 and HB 2355 create the Food is Medicine act and HB 2355 has passed out of the house rules committee. The bill authorizes Missouri to pursue a federal Section 1115 Medicaid waiver to test targeted nutrition services through MO HealthNet for participants with nutrition-related chronic disease, with the explicit purpose of reducing the need for medical care.
  • Donated Food Tax Credits: HB 2457SB 1082 and HB 2461:  will increase the amount of money in the Donated Food Tax Credit Fund, extend the sunset date of the fund and, if the fund runs out, allow tax credit recipients extra time to pay the additional taxes they owe to the State of Missouri.

Bills we oppose:

HB 2468 and SB 1616 would expand citizenship documentation requirements or impose stricter verification tests as a condition for accessing public benefits in Missouri. Missouri is already required to verify immigration status. If a bill such as this passes, eligible low-income Missouri citizens will lose access to food. And the cost of implementing these stricter verifications will cost the state millions of dollars. Added documentation requirements are going to hurt our U.S. citizens, particularly the most vulnerable in our state like seniors and survivors of domestic violence.

Following the May adjournment, the governor has 45 days to sign or veto legislation, and the legislature is scheduled to return in September 2026 for a veto session to consider any overrides.
