(Kansas City, Mo.) – In a nod to their affection for the Kansas City area community, singer-songwriter Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end, Travis Kelce have jointly made a significant financial donation to Harvesters—The Community Food Network, providing $1 million, the equivalent of 2 million meals, to their 27-county service area. The announcement comes just prior to the Fourth of July holiday and the couple’s anticipated wedding ceremony.
“We were so surprised to learn about this gift, but so incredibly grateful,” said Valerie Nicholson-Watson, Harvesters Interim President and CEO. “They have both financially supported Harvesters in the past, and Travis has volunteered for us, but for them to think of us—and more importantly think of neighbors in our community who are experiencing food insecurity—at a time when they are focused on celebrating their wedding and their commitment to each other, it truly shows how generous their hearts are.”
Summer is a very difficult time for thousands of families and children because school is out and children lose access to free and reduced-price breakfast and lunch meals. High prices for groceries, gasoline and utilities leave many families with hard choices when limited incomes can’t cover all the basic living expenses.
It was during Taylor’s Eras tour concert in Kansas City, when Travis first tried to meet the singer, and it was at a Kansas City Chiefs football game that Taylor first appeared and the two were seen leaving the stadium together. Since then, the couple has spent a lot of time in the city.
The couple have both supported food insecurity causes in the past. During her Eras tour, Taylor donated to food banks in every city she visited, including Harvesters.
