It’s a challenging time for Harvesters’ food sourcing team. As fuel and fertilizer costs soar due to the conflict in Iran, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to acquire the same amount of food and stay within budget.

Many farmers are reducing acreage to combat higher fertilizer prices. Weather conditions are not helping either. Freezing temperatures in Florida this spring, fires in Georgia and drought conditions throughout the southeast and west coast have destroyed crops or led to delays in planting. All of this is creating a smaller volume of fresh fruits and vegetables and higher purchase prices.

And, while it may be summer, this is the time of year Harvesters’ team works to secure pricing for holiday meats (turkeys and chickens). Several major turkey producers have left the whole bird market reducing supply and sending turkey prices climbing close to that of beef prices.

Generous support from donors has helped Harvesters face these challenges so far. Now through August 31, every dollar donated will be matched by an anonymous $450,000 gift.  That means every dollar given this summer will help provide four meals, instead of two. Will you give today?
