Harvesters is so grateful for the work of our volunteers, who bring their hearts and hands to the job of feeding hungry people! We could not feed 141,500 people every month without the dedication and service of our volunteers.
Hours spent sorting food, assisting at special events or providing professional service equate to the work of an additional 90 full-time employees.
We look forward to hearing from you and having you be part of the effort to help solve hunger. Just two hours of your time can make a difference!
Current Construction at Harvesters
Construction continues on several improvements to our Kansas City facility. This construction project will increase visitor parking capacity, expand our Volunteer Engagement Center, and double the size of our freezer/cooler so Harvesters can accept and distribute more fresh produce to hungry families, children and seniors in our community.
Currently many Harvesters parking spots are temporarily closed for construction. We apologize for any inconvenience while improvements are underway. Additional parking has been made available from our friends at Friendship Baptist Church. Please park in the spots highlighted in the attached map, then fill cars to capacity and carpool to Harvesters.

Are you looking for a new team-building activity? Check out Harvesters’ Lunch Challenge!
Lunch Challenge is a fast-paced, hands-on team-building program that helps groups work toward a common goal and raise awareness about the issue of hunger. Teams work together to prepare a healthy meal on a budget using food you would find at a food pantry. After the judging, teams get to eat their culinary creations! For more information, click here.
Harvesters offers a unique opportunity for youth, ages 8 and older, to become active as hunger advocates. Youth can learn more about hunger and how they can be involved through our Hunger Workshops and Youth Hunger Summit. Havesters also has a Youth Leadership Council. Click here for more information about Youth Engagement.
Internships provide a hands-on educational experience where students can learn, grow, and contribute in a professional setting all at the same time. Throughout the year, we actively recruit individuals enrolled in degree-granting programs related to non-profit work, public administration, and similar fields. All interns are provided with a comprehensive orientation to the organization, ongoing training and supervision by qualified management staff. Please contact the Community Engagement Manager at InfoRequest@harvesters.org to make an appointment to discuss individualized opportunities.
Are you going to school or working a part time job but wishing you could do something more meaningful? Do you need to build skills and networks to help launch your first (or next) career? Are you retired but looking to use your experience to help others? If you want to make a real difference in our community, AmeriCorps might be for you!
AmeriCorps is often compared to a “domestic Peace Corps” – with opportunities to make a lasting difference by tackling the most pressing needs our communities and our fellow citizens face today, all over the country. Each year, more than 75,000 individuals (ages 18-90+) serve at more than 15,000 locations including nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups across the country. Over the past decade, Harvesters’ AmeriCorps members (who serve a one-year, full time term educating, engaging and empowering the community around food insecurity) have consistently reported a high level of satisfaction around issues of community impact, personal development, and professional growth.
