Building Healthier Communities

Nutrition Education

Healthy Eating is one of Harvesters’ four key initiatives. Harvesters works to provide the most nutritious food possible to our neighbors in need. We know consistent access to healthy, nutritious food helps build stronger and healthier communities.

In addition to providing nutritious food, Harvesters offers a variety of nutrition services to its network agency partners. These include coaching for nutrition- and health-related projects, staff and volunteer training, and nutrition education resources.

Nutrition Services for Agency Partners

  • Healthy Program Partnerships – The Nutrition Services team offers specific coaching to agency partners on short- and long-term projects such as gardening, pantry set up, environmental cues encouraging healthier choices, staff and volunteer training, cooking demonstrations, healthy food procurement, health screenings, visual aids, and setting up a client choice pantry.
  • Resources – Harvesters offers nutrition resources such as recipes, nutrition information and food safety information (flyers, trainings, videos).
  • Nutrition Education Classes – Harvesters trains agency staff and volunteers to facilitate nutrition education classes that teach low-income children and adults how to cook and eat healthier meals.
  • Webinars – Harvesters’ Nutrition Services team offers webinars on a variety of topics such as diabetes, hypertension, environmental cues encouraging healthier choices, foods to encourage, and food allergens.
