“Food is so expensive, and it’s hardest to buy fresh stuff,” Christina says of her family’s situation. “Things are just super, super tight.”
Christina’s a single mother to little Waylon, 2. They live in Odessa, Mo., and have been looking forward to celebrating the holidays with Waylon’s grandma.
But, as Christina said, they’ve been having a hard time financially. She’s out of work and struggling to buy groceries without an income. Her mom offered to care for Waylon while Christina looks for a job, and saving on childcare will definitely help the family pay for other expenses. But in the meantime, things are difficult.
A few years ago, Christina’s mom realized she didn’t have enough money to buy food. She reached out to Odessa Community Services, a Harvesters partner agency near her home. She told her daughter about the food pantry.
Christina was so excited to have help providing nutritious food for her growing son. Waylon loves vegetables — especially green beans and corn — and it gives Christina peace of mind to fill his plate with healthy meals.
