“I thought I was dying. It lasted for a week,” George says, remembering his bout with COVID-19, which struck last year, just before the pandemic began making headlines.
The 65-year-old retired Army sergeant whose decorations include two bronze stars, has volunteered with Harvesters in the past to give back to his community and help neighbors who are struggling to afford food.
“I just like what you guys do,” George told us. “It’s really nice.”
The day George drove through a Harvesters food distribution at Union Station, he was on the receiving end — for himself and his niece and her four children because “they don’t have enough.”
George is grateful to you for giving generously to stock food distributions like the one he visited that help bridge the hunger gap.
“I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve needed Harvesters,” George says, but he knows the summer months will be especially difficult for his niece and other families when their children no longer have access to the nutritious meals they receive at school.
On behalf of neighbors like George and his niece, thank you for partnering with Harvesters to reach people facing hunger today and all summer long! Please consider giving here.
