As a founding member of Harvesters Ambassador Program, Mike Svetlic speaks regularly in the community about the impact of Harvesters work. But one of his greatest privileges is meeting with the people who receive your gift of food.
“Even with all the troubles and challenges that each of these clients face, they were so willing to open up regarding Harvesters and how we as an organization assist them and people like them in their challenges,” Mike says.
Now practically retired, Mike says he has even more time to devote to volunteering with Harvesters and Harvesters partner agency, Morning Glory Ministries, a food pantry and soup kitchen serving downtown Kansas City.
Mike says the Harvesters name is “unparalleled” throughout the community and is viewed as a “beloved organization.”
A major reason for that praise, he says, comes from Harvesters’ low overhead and administrative costs, which he attributes in great part to its faithful volunteer force. Every volunteer hour ensures more money can go to help people in need.
“We give [our neighbors] food and assistance to uplift them and get them outside of the cycle of poverty or any unfortunate circumstance they may be facing,” he says.
Thank you, Mike, for your dedicated and passionate support of Harvesters and hunger relief across our community!
