You’d never guess from Logan’s bright smile and kind spirit what a tumultuous time his family has experienced over the past few years.
His dad, an Army veteran, lost an eye in a wood-chopping accident and has been struggling to find work. The family’s financial situation became so dire that they were homeless for a while.
When we talked with Logan, 11, and his mom, Heidi, at Metro Lutheran Ministry’s Northland Food Pantry, they said things were improving. School meals help with the family’s food budget and Logan’s big sister, Sabrina, 17, recently graduated from high school.
There are months when finances are tight, like during the summer, and your gifts make a real difference. A few times a year, Heidi visits the Metro Lutheran Ministry pantry, a Harvesters partner near the family’s home in Kansas City, for help with food.
Logan was excited to find some of his and his sister’s favorite fruits, including apples, strawberries and oranges, on a recent visit. As he and Heidi carried their groceries to the car, they took a moment to share their thanks.
"God bless you all — you’ve helped me so much,” Heidi says. “[The pantry] really has been a lifesaver.”
Your gifts help make sure children don’t go to bed hungry — and give them the fuel to do their best - and give them the fuel to do their best. Please consider giving here.
