“If it wasn’t for this place, I wouldn’t eat half the time,” Carolyn says as she awaits the Harvesters mobile pantry truck that visits Drexel United Methodist Church in Drexel, Mo.
People like Carolyn, 75, helped lay the foundation of our community. Born and raised on a farm, she knows the value of hard work. Carolyn had a maintenance job at PepsiCo for 30 years and raised three children — and one of her grandkids — outside of Drexel. It’s simply unacceptable that today, she’s facing hunger.
But Carolyn’s fixed income just can’t always stretch to afford healthy groceries. After battling cancer several years ago, she knows how vital good nutrition is for her health. That’s why she’s so grateful she can pick up fresh greens, oranges and salad ingredients at the monthly mobile pantry.
Carolyn pays your generosity forward by picking up groceries for her brother, who also struggles to get by on a fixed Social Security income. She says it gives her peace of mind to know she can fill his kitchen with nutritious food to support his health.
Your gifts to Harvesters mean so much to older adults like Carolyn. She couldn’t be more grateful to have friends like you in her corner.
“I appreciate everything that you do for me,” she says. “[The mobile pantry] is a godsend.”
Thanks to you, Harvesters clients like Carolyn can access the nutrition they need. Please consider giving here.
