Sharon works in a school cafeteria serving meals to students. She began volunteering a year and a half ago with Harvesters at the suggestion of her boss. She enjoyed giving time with the other volunteers, who happened to be staff from surrounding schools.
She had such a great experience that Sharon began volunteering on Saturdays and Tuesdays on her own. And when COVID-19 started, she took up Thursdays, too!
“We all have a great time [volunteering] together. I enjoy seeing and visiting with them.”
When schools were closed, she would help pass out sack lunches on the curb at her school and saw that many children and families were experiencing financial crises as a result of the pandemic.
“The main reason [I volunteer] is so the ones who need food get food,” Sharon says. “I feel like I’m making a difference. It’s very rewarding.”
She says knowing she’s providing hunger relief is a major motivator for giving her time. Sharon loves being part of her volunteer team.
Caring neighbors like Sharon help make our work possible.
