Good, nutritious food is vital to Regina’s well-being. She has sickle cell anemia, a painful, genetic blood disorder that weakens her immune system.
“I’ve definitely had some ups and down with my health [during COVID-19],” she says.
Regina relies on a small monthly disability check — and it doesn’t go very far, especially during the winter when high utility bills claim so much of her budget.
This is a real problem. Seniors and people with disabilities who live on a fixed income are more vulnerable to illness but have a hard time affording the healthy food they need to thrive.
That’s where generous friends like you come in. Regina can access a variety of fresh produce and other nutrient-rich foods from one of Harvesters’ mobile food distributions set up in response to the pandemic. This one was at Kansas City’s Union Station. She found out about the distribution from a friend.
She appreciates that the distribution operates safely and efficiently with its drive-thru, no contact setup. Regina has spent the majority of the pandemic at home alone with her dog, with occasional socially distant visits with her seven grandchildren. She’s so glad you help make the food distribution possible.
“Thank you...we appreciate you,” Regina says of herself and her neighbors.
Thanks to you, Harvesters clients like Regina can access the nutrition they need. Please consider giving here.
